Winter is here and I have started working of a few projects that I had purposedly put off until the "indoor" months. One is using a method of increasing Depth of Field through "Focus Stacking". It is especially suited for macro shots and dramatically increases the range of sharpness in an object. Here are 2 tests I recently completed.

Photoshop, Creative Digital Control Seminar

5 Weeks, 2 hours per week, $145.00

February 6 ~ March 6, 2110, 9- 11:00 AM

This is a hands on Introduction to Photoshop; Tools, palates, resizing, understanding DPI, image size, resolution for printing, layers, creating composites, adding boarders and drop shadows, using the creative filters, retouching & restoring old photographs, adding type to your images, removing and adding backgrounds. No experience necessary, we start from the beginning. Weekly assignments, handouts, demos and phone / Email assistance are part of this class. You must have Photoshop Elements or similar installed at home. Laptops are welcome in the class but not necessary. Limited seating.

Photoshop Effects: Beyond the presets

B&W Effects, Sepia Effects, Tri Tone Effects, Sharpening, Creative Filters, Painting Effects.

This is designed to introduce the student to using these techniques in ways BETTER than the preset functions Photoshop offers. I NEVER use the presets for converting to B&W or Sepia for example. I have 3 or more ways to sharpen an image and often sharpen part and soften part of the same image. Using the creative filters on a layer and adding the effect to part of the image. Combining multiple exposures into one shot.

AND Painting Effects ...This is using an existing photograph and brushes that are not part of the photoshop pallet to paint a new image... using history states and layers. Many of my flowers shots and landscapes were done with these techniques. Go on my web site under fine art for some examples of painting techniques. Food and Still Life Photography

$50.00, 3 hours, February 6, 2010, 1:00 - 4:00 PM I will discuss easy and effective lighting, composition, props, color hue of the shot, etc. This will not be prepared food dishes, but rather food still life shots. We will concentrate on the less is more principal, both with lighting the still life and composition. Most demos will use one light and easy to find props.

Stunning Portraits with one light

$45.00, February 13, 2010, 1:00 - 3:00 PM Exploring options for easy one light portraits. We will demonstrate portraits with a work light from Lowes, an off camera hand held flash and studio lights. Simple and on the cheep fill light reflectors. Simulated window light., background options, DOF and lens selection, camera placement and posing.

Nolte Forrest Excursion 9:00 ~1:00 Saturday June 12, 2010...$45.00 Explore the natural opportunities in this pristine forrest for woodland landscapes, stream and water, fauna and macro photography.

Rickets Glenn Park, Saturday June 26 all day. $75.00, one day or $95.00 if we decide to do this for 2 days. This is a premier location in NE Pa for a multitude of pristine water falls and natural streams. The photo opportunities are virtually endless along many trails that will take us through the woods and along the various waterfalls. This trip will require hiking, uphill travel, and wet rocky terrain. Currently I am considering making this a 2 day excursion because the travel distance to the State Park is around 2.5 - 3 hours AND there is just so much to see once we arrive. SO, please Email me with your current interest, one or 2 days option and I can investigate the overnight opportunities. Bring your spouse free...one registration will cover both. This is not the best choice for small children, teenagers will be able to negotiate the rocky terrain with out difficulty.
